Ragdoll cat is complemented by a coat of color points and blue eyes. They are tall and muscular cats with a soft and silky coat. Raised by Native American breeder Ann Baker in the 1960s, they are best known for their intelligent and loving personality. The name “Ragdoll” is derived from the tendency of people to move from the original herd to the height and rest when taken.
Popular in the United Kingdom and native cheeks in the United States, ragdoll cats are commonly known as “cats like dogs” or “cats like dogs” because of their tendency to follow people around, their ease in handling animals, and their relative lack of aggressiveness in other animals pets.
In the 1960s, a standard, unnatural, white-skinned domestic cat named Josephine produced several liters of cats. Josephine was of Persian / Angora origin and had porcelain sold by many anonymous Birman cats or Burmese cats, one of which had a Siamese point color. Josephine later produced kittens with great intelligence, modest personality, a loving nature, and a tendency to slow down and relax when taken.
When subsequent rubbish produced a similar one, Ann Baker bought several kittens from her neighbor who lived behind her and, believing that she had something special, set herself up to build what is now known as a ragdoll. Breeding was distinguished for many years by the desirable traits, such as large size, modest softness, precise colors, and tendency to decrease when taken.
In those early scenes there was Blackie, a brown man like a Burmese, and Daddy Warbucks, a white-knuckle-knit lodge. Father Warucks made Fugianna a bi-colored base, and Blackie traded Buckwheat, a Burmese-like black female. Both Fugianna and Buckwheat were the daughters of Josephine. All Ragdoll’s come from Baker’s Cattle through Daddy Warbucks’ extension to Fugianna and Buckwheat.
Baker, in a rare move, has abandoned domestic cat breeding organizations. He sold the name Ragdoll, set up its own register – the International Ragdoll Cat Association (IRCA) – around 1971, and enforced strict standards for anyone wanting to breed or sell cats under that name. Ragdoll was also not allowed to be registered by other breeding organizations The IRCA still exists today, but very little, especially since Baker’s death in 1997. IRCA cats are not known in any large breeding or cat breeding organization.
In 1975, a group led by husband and wife team, Denny and Laura Dayton, broke up with the IRCA in a bid to gain recognition for Ragdoll. Beginning with the breed of the IRCA cats, the group finally launched the Ragdoll standard which is currently accepted by major cat registries such as CFA and FIFe.
During or after the introduction of the Ragdoll brand in the United States in the early 1960s, Ragdoll was introduced to the UK. The couple has been followed by eight other cats to completely establish breeding in the UK, where it was approved by the Cat Council of Cat Fancy.
In 1994, a second group decided to leave the IRCA and form their own party, due to strict restrictions on breeding. The group later developed the Ragamuffin genus. Because Beka had the rights to be named “Ragdoll”, no extinction groups were able to call their cats Ragdoll until 2005, when the trademark on “Ragdoll” was not renewed.
Ragdoll’s largest breeding club in the world is Ragdoll Fanciers’ Club International (RFCI).
